Home again, home again, jiggety jog

Can a 60+ year old woman who has lived in the United States for many, many years, return to live in the country she was born in? I'm about to find out.

I have always wanted to return to New Zealand to live. The annual trips home are never long enough. So at the age of 61 and grandmother to three American kids, I'm selling up and going home. Is this a mistake? I don't think so. Perhaps I'll get there and find I miss my grandkids too much. I earn my living as an artist...so perhaps I'll find that it's too difficult to keep my galleries in the U.S. supplied with work? But maybe it will be a move that I'll never regret. There's only one way to find out and that's to do it. I'd rather regret making the move than never giving it a shot.

The first step is to get the house ready to put on the market. I've lived in this house for 33 years but I'm not a pack-rat, so it hasn't been that difficult to clean out closets. Thanks to the best brother-in-law in the world, the interior of the house is in good shape. I've got a few cosmetics repairs to make on the outside and hope to put the house on the market in May!!
